Insurance & Coverage Policies

At RentCar.do, your financial and physical safety is our priority. We offer different levels of protection so you can drive through the Dominican Republic without worries.

1. Coverage Options

Basic Insurance (TPL)

Third Party Liability (TPL) insurance. It is mandatory by law and is included in all our base rates.

Covers damage to third-party property.
Covers physical injuries to third parties.
Does not cover damage to the rented vehicle.
Limited Liability: Third-party coverage is subject to the maximum limits of the local policy. Any surplus, civil or medical lawsuit that exceeds said limit is 100% the responsibility of the driver.

Recommended

Medium Protection (CDW)

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). Limits your financial liability to a set deductible in case of an accident.

Covers collision damage to the rented vehicle.
Maximum deductible of $500 - $1,500 USD (depending on category).
Does not include: Tires, glass, keys, rims, or damage to the front suspension/oil pan caused by potholes or speed bumps.
Loss of Use: The client is responsible for paying the daily base rate for the time the vehicle remains immobilized in the repair shop for repairs.

Full Coverage (LDW)

Loss Damage Waiver (Premium Protection). The maximum peace of mind for your trip, eliminating the deductible almost entirely.

$0 Deductible in case of an accident.
Includes theft protection (TP).
Coverage for glass and basic tires.

Theft & Vandalism

Protection against partial or total theft requires the activation of Premium coverage (LDW) or a specific addendum (TP).

In the event of theft, the driver will be exonerated as long as they present the formal Police Report (DICRIM/Prosecutor's Office) within 24 hours and hand over the original key. Exception: In the event of an armed robbery where the keys are stolen, the original key will not be required. Note: Partial theft (theft of mirrors, radios, accessories) is NOT covered.

24/7 Roadside Assistance

All our rentals include basic roadside assistance service for fortuitous mechanical failures within the national territory.

Tow truck for mechanical failure of the engine or transmission.
Battery charging (Jump-start).
Exceptions with extra charge: Loss of keys, running out of fuel, or rescues due to negligence (e.g., vehicle stuck in beach sand or rivers).

Contract Violations (Critical Exclusions)

Any coverage or liability waiver purchased will be automatically voided and the client will be 100% responsible for damages, if they incur in any of the following acts of negligence:

Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any psychoactive substance.

Allowing a person NOT registered or authorized on the contract to drive the vehicle.

Driving on unpaved roads (Off-road), dunes, beaches, or crossing rivers.

Crossing the international border (into Haiti). This action is STRICTLY PROHIBITED, instantly voids all coverage, and will be legally prosecuted as theft and smuggling.

Immersion Damage: Driving through flooded streets, rivers, or beaches causing damage to the engine (Hydro-lock) or electrical system due to water ingress.

Leaving the scene of an accident before the authorities or our staff arrive.

Using the wrong fuel or continuing to drive with mechanical warning lights illuminated on the dashboard.

What to do in case of an Accident?

Secure the area

Do not abandon the vehicle. Turn on the hazard lights and make sure everyone is safe. Call 911 if there are injuries.

Notify Immediately

Contact our RentCar.do 24/7 emergency number to receive instructions before moving the vehicle.

File the Police Report

It is a NON-NEGOTIABLE legal requirement. Go to the Casa del Conductor, Centro del Automovilista or DIGESETT and generate the Traffic Police Report in less than 24 hours. Without this original document, the insurance company will decline the case and you will pay 100% of the damages.
