Driving to Samaná
From Santo Domingo you take the Autopista del Nordeste: Las Terrenas is about 2 to 2.5 hours away, and Santa Bárbara de Samaná about the same. The highway has tolls; the vehicle carries a Paso Rápido tag and crossings are added up at the end of the rental.
From Punta Cana the trip is much longer, since you have to go around through Santo Domingo or along the east coast. Coming from there, plan for half a day on the road.
Getting around the peninsula
Las Terrenas, Santa Bárbara de Samaná and Las Galeras are at different points of the peninsula, so plan your drives. From roughly mid-January to late March, humpback whales arrive in Samaná Bay and the tours leave from town.
Some beach access roads and the way to El Limón waterfall are dirt tracks or done on foot or horseback. The contract doesn't allow leaving the pavement, so leave the vehicle in the parking area and walk on.
Why a 7-seat vehicle
One vehicle for the whole group costs less than two cars: one rate, one deposit and one set of tolls. Keep in mind that with all 7 seats in use the trunk gets smaller; if 7 of you are traveling with big suitcases, message us and we'll help you choose.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have minivans?
Right now our 7-seat options are three-row SUVs. If you need more seats, message us on WhatsApp and we'll tell you what we can offer.
Can I pick it up in Santo Domingo and return it in Samaná?
It can be arranged when booking; depending on the place there may be a transfer fee, which we confirm before you pay. Message us on WhatsApp.
Can more than one person drive?
Yes, as long as they're registered in the contract. If someone not listed in the contract drives, the insurance is void.
